CARPINTERIA, Calif. -

Skateboarders are one step closer to getting a park in Carpinteria.

The City Council voted to authorize city staff to do a feasibility study.

The in-house study would examine the potential costs, the possible locations and he exposure to liability.

In the late 1990's, the city had skate ramps made of wood in a parking lot, but weather made them difficult to maintain.

Members of the Carpinteria Skate Foundation applauded the move. They said parks in nearby cities are outdated.  They believe a new park would attract tourists, too.

The study's findings will be release in late Spring during a public workshop.
