SANTA YNEZ, Calif. -

Kids at Circle V Ranch Camp got musical and crafty Friday in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Circle V hosted the Flutes Across The World project led by award-winning composer and musician John Zeretzke.

Campers between the ages of 7 and 13 made two recorder style folk flutes.

The kids learned how to sand, shape, decorate and then play their flutes.

One was to keep and the other was to give to a child in the Philippines.

Zeretzke will be taking over 200 give-away flutes on a music mission of good will to the Philippines this October.

The campers enjoyed getting their hands on the wind instruments and helping kids in a different country.

Nine-year-old camper Catarina Cameron-Pallanck of Goleta said “We're making flutes for people who don't really get presents each year, and so we're making something special for them. “

“I really liked it because to know that somebody less fortunate then me is going to have a flute so they can play music and learn how to do it,” agreed 11-year-old camper Alexus Hazzard of Santa Maria.

Flutes Across The World is an educational and humanitarian program designed to nurture cultural understanding across the world.

This was the fourth year the kids at the Circle V Ranch has taken part in the music project.
