State Senate Passes Bill Linked To Isla Vista Massacre

Bill would require gun database reviews during welfare checks

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A bill that would require officers to review a gun-owners database during a welfare check unanimously passed in the California State Senate.

The bill, authored by Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, would help officers find out if  people they are checking on are armed.

Jackson called it a another tool that could prevent another massacre like the one that left six UCSB students dead in Isla Vista.

Three of the victims were shot to death before the gunman took his own life.

Officers checking on the killer's welfare did not go inside his apartment to check for weapons and did not see videos posted online that disturbed the young man's mother before she called the police.
