Pilots talk about Malaysia Airlines Mystery

Missing plane could lead to aviation changes

Pilots talk about missing plane

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Pilots meeting at Above All Aviation at the Santa Barbara airport Tuesday said they are trained not to jump to conclusions but the Malaysian Airlines mystery is on their radar.

Pilots called the missing plane a rare occurrence that will take time to solve.

Capt. Karen Kahn said she remembers wondering what happened to Korean Airlines flight 007 in the 1980s. It had been shot down by a Soviet Jet for flying in Soviet airspace on the way of Alaska to Korea.

Pilot Bill Peterson said hopes the black box is found to explain what happened. Peterson said the explanation could lead to tracking changes.

Members of the 99s Santa Barbara Chapter said they don't want what happened to make people afraid to fly. The female aviators said they still consider flying one of the safest ways to travel.
