SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Cold temperatures led to extended hours at some warming shelters.
Freedom Warming Shelters stayed open for a second night after Sunday's rain.
Shelter Director Maria Long said Freedom Shelters are activated when there is a 50 percent chance of rain or if temperatures dip below 35 degrees.
The First United Methodist Church in Santa Barbara and the Carpinteria Community Church gave people a warm place to sleep.
Volunteers served hot meals Monday night while members of Doctors Without Walls offered free medical care and referrals.
