FILLMORE, Calif. -

Ventura County firefighters are trying to put out a brush fire that started near the 1400 block of Telegraph Road.

Firefighters said the fire has burned  about 40 acres just south of the Sespe Condor Sanctuary. Firefighters said they think they have stopped it's progress.

Helicopters and fixed-wing planes are making water drops.

The Day Fire in 2006 burned brush in the same area known for the endangered predatory birds.

Firefighters said they are having trouble accessing the protected area.

Firefighters from Santa Paula and Fillmore are working with county firefighter to put the flames out.
