SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. -

UPDATE: The Santa Barbara County Coroner has identified the body of a woman found floating in the ocean off the coast.

20-year-old Kayla Hallee's lifeless body was spotted Tuesday afternoon before 2:15 p.m. near Tajiguas Beach, roughly 20 miles north of Santa Barbara.

Sheriff's officials say the Mission Viejo woman was discovered several miles from a kayak found Tuesday morning near Vista Point.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter HALIBUT was called out to retrieve Hallee's remains.

Investigators are trying to determine why Hallee was in the Santa Barbara area or if she is connected to the abandoned kayak.

An autopsy and toxicology tests are pending. However, sheriff's officials say Hallee was not killed by an "animal attack."

If you have any information regarding this case, you are asked to call the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office at 805-681-4100.
