SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

The track has been laid for a bike pump track in Fletcher Park a few blocks from the Crossroads Shopping Plaza in Santa Maria.

The city began the $75,000 project three years ago because bicyclists were damaging the ramps at the skate park.

Skaters say the damage then trips their skate boards and injures them.

One skater tells News Channel 3 he's been in a head-on crash with a bicyclist.

Like other skaters, Chris Perez is glad to hear bicyclists will have their own park.

It will open to bicyclists in a month after the city puts in benches and shades.

One of the rules will be no skateboards, which Perez says he is perfectly fine with.
