Two young women who had never entered contests before are the semi-finalists in the sixth annual California Strawberry Festival Berry Blast Off competition.
They were among five finalists chosen out of 80 recipe entrees.
The finalist had one hour to create their dish at the Courtyard Marriott in Oxnard Tuesday.
The judges chose Linda Quan's spicy strawberry chicken wing appetizer and Kate Evans' strawberry spinach and shrimp salad.
They will face-off on the first day of the California Strawberry Festival May 17.
The winner will get a vacation and Cutco knives.
The 31st annual California Strawberry Festival takes place May 17, and 18 at Strawberry Meadows next to Oxnard College at 3250 Rose Ave. in Oxnard.
