SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

While you are looking for deals in stores, thieves may be looking for a deal in your car.

Police remind holiday shoppers to lock their cars, place valuables in the trunk, and watch their belongings while in and out of stores.

They see more car thefts and stolen personal items during the holiday season.

The Santa Maria Town Center Mall says they have increased security with undercover officers and aerial cameras.

But they want shoppers to bring purchases back to their car frequently and only carry what they need while in the mall.
