SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

An arrest has been made in the stabbing death of an 18 year old Santa Maria man.

On Friday, Santa Maria detectives arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with the September 10th murder of Luis Castaneira. The suspect's name was not released, but he was booked into Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall.

The stabbing happened just before 5 o'clock last Saturday off West Mcelhaney Street. Castaneira later died at the hospital.

The neighborhood is breathing a sigh of relief.

"In the nights when I would walk it was kind of scary, just keep an eye out," neighbor Jose Pina said. "He seemed like a nice, chill kid - I would always see him just ride his bike around."

"I think it's awful that kids are killing kids, I think whatever they're stuck on is stupid," neighbor Sheila Pili said. "You know it could've been something so stupid over a phone, a girl or a piece of candy."

Anyone with further information regarding this investigation is urged to contact Santa Maria Police Department.
