Vigil Planned for Shark Victim; Surf Beach Open Again

Isla Vista - Friends and classmates of 19-year-old Lucas Ransom plan to hold a memorial for the UCSB student on Tuesday. Ransom was killed Friday after being attacked by a shark.

The vigil will begin at 8 p.m. at the open space located on the corner of Del Playa Drive and Camino Pescadero.

As for the beach where the attack took place, it was reopened Monday morning. Vandenberg Air Force Base announced two other beaches on the base property, Minuteman Beach and Wall Beach, remain closed.

Over the weekend, base conservation law enforcement increased patrols of the base beaches. They say no sharks were observed.

Vandenberg's Minuteman and Wall beaches are only accessible to base personnel. Surf Beach is open to the public.
