Washington gridlock could impact Vandenberg Air Force Base
Civilian jobs in danger as Congress' sequestration deadline approaches
Vandenberg Air Force Base is home to 2,000 military personnel and roughly 1,500 government civilian workers.
Some of those civilian positions may be at risk if Congress doesn't come to an agreement on sequestration. The automatic spending cuts are scheduled to kick in on Friday and the estimated cuts to defense spending could leave nearly 100 Vandenberg AFB civilian workers without a job.
Base officials say they don't know exactly what impact the cuts will have but they will continue to press forward.
Throughout California 64,000 civilian Department of Defense employees could also be furloughed due to the cuts.
Congress has until March 1 to come to a compromise.
