Tow Truck Driver Due in Court Today

The Santa Barbara tow truck driver accused of dragging two toddlers underneath his truck is scheduled to be arraigned today.

Police say Mehran Khamseh was under the influence of drugs when he hit Alma Lopez as she pushed her three-year old daughter and one year old son in a stroller across Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard.

Authorities say the truck dragged the children for a quarter mile before witnesses forced the driver to stop.

The children are listed in stable condition at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Their mother is being treated for moderate injuries at Ventura County Medical Center.

Khamseh is being held on a parole and immigration hold and faces felony DUI charges.

His criminal record includes petty theft, a terrorist threat accusation, and traffic violations.
