Willie Green
SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

The City of Santa Maria is welcoming its newest City Council member. Councilman Willie Green has been a Santa Maria resident for about 14 years.

Green has worked with several organizations, including the city's Block Grants Advisory Committee and the All America City Committee.

Green said he expects his life experiences and close relations with people in the community will help bring a new dynamic to the Council. “I plan to bring cohesiveness, if there's a need to,” said Councilman Green. “I plan to be a team player with the rest of the city officials as to making this the greatest area on the planet to live.”

Green beat out more than 13 other candidates for the job. He was sworn in Tuesday night and his term will end in December 2014.
