Demonstrators Have Voice Heard at UCSB

Written by KEYT Sports

On a day when the UC Board of Regents connected for a conference call, dozens of UCSB students joined hundreds of others on UC campuses throughout California, voicing their opinions over a university system they say has drifted off course.

Students are outraged over proposed tuition hikes as well as the rash of student/police confrontations seen on several UC campuses over the past several weeks. During the UC Board of Regents meeting, UC President Mark Yudof announced the board will ask the state for $2.7B in funding this upcoming fiscal year, an increase from the current funding of $2.3B. Yudof added if the additional funding comes through, a tuition increase will not be necessary.

UCSB organizers say there will be more protests to come in the near future.
