SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

It was a chaotic scene in one Santa Barbara neighborhood Saturday morning after a van dumped several dogs on the street, then took off.

Residents told police a white van pulled over on Santa Barbara's upper eastside and released as many as eight dogs just after 10 a.m.

The animals were seen roaming on East Pedregosa, Oramas, and Loma streets.

Residents tried to round up the smaller dogs.

Police say the larger animals were working as a pack and charged at officers when they tried to catch them.

At least four dogs were taken into the custody of animal control.
