VENTURA, Calif. -

You don't have to be  religious to take an interest in what's going on at the Vatican, following the historic resignation of the pope.

Tourists at the San Buenaventura Mission are welcome to ask about it.

Senior Priest Damian Fernando said Cardinals will be choosing a pope who can deal with matters of the church and the world, because the Holy Father will be on a global stage.

To avoid scandals, like leaked documents and allegations of corruption, the cardinals took an oath of secrecy. Parish Administrator Rick Cole said they have more pressing issues than paying attention to gossip.

Although the conclave to choose a new pope could take months, many followers are hoping a new pope will be able in place to take part in Holy Week.
