Man Burned in Fire Relives Experience

Written by KEYT Weather

The fire broke out just after 8:00 on Thursday November 17th at a storage yard on Quarantina Street in Santa Barbara's lower Eastside.

Justin Mezey says he was inside a trailer where he sometimes slept. Earlier in the evening, Justin says he set up a cot just outside the trailer for a homeless woman he only knew as Gloria. Mezey says "about an hour later I heard a couple of screams and I went outside and the whole place... her bed was all on fire. It was 20 feet of flames. And, I couldn't get at her."

The woman known as Gloria died in the fire. Mezey suffered third degree burns on 25% of his body.

Mezey believes someone started the fire on purpose with gasoline. Fire officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
