Toxicology tests on two women, hit and killed in late December on San Marcos Pass, show drugs were in their systems. The Santa Barbara County Coroners Bureau says Barbara Romero of Lompoc had methamphetamine and methadone in her system. They also found codeine, morphine, and methadone in the testing on Santa Barbara resident Sara Ornelas. The two women were struck and killed on San Marcos Pass near the Rancho San Marcos Golf Course on December 21st, while reportedly chasing their dog in traffic. The dog was also killed by on coming traffic. Family members say Romero and Ornelas had been Christmas shopping in Santa Barbara earlier in the day. Details about the accident, and how the dog got out of the car on the busy highway are still part of a Highway Patrol investigation.
