Robotics team moves one step closer to competing for world title

LONG BEACH, Calif. -

The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy has another shot at becoming world champions.

Team 1717 came in first place at the FIRST Robotics Regional Championship in Long Beach on Saturday.

Teams were challenged to make a robot pick up Frisbee discs off of the playing field, then shoot the flying discs into targets.

In the final match on Saturday, Dos Pueblos crushed the competition with a score of 140 to 88.

Team 1717 heads to another regional competition in Las Vegas in the coming weeks.

The FIRST Robotics World Championships are in Saint Louis in April.
