SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Police are investigating after a car hit a man on a scooter.  It happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening on Cliff Drive at Meigs Road in Santa Barbara.

Officer Kent McBride from the Santa Barbara Police Department said the man on the scooter was crossing the street when it happened.

"When we got to the scene it was a man in a wheelchair who had been drinking and he was crossing, not in the crosswalk, and a driver coming westbound on Cliff Drive didn't see him and they collided."

Officers say the man was taken to cottage hospital, but is expected to be OK.

The driver wasn't hurt in the crash.
