Candle Light Vigil for Shark Victim

Written by KEYT Anchor

A young man with sparkling eyes and a smile that would melt your heart. That's how Candace Ransom described her son Lucas, a third-year UCSB student who was killed in a shark attack on Friday.

Tuesday night, locals gathered for a public vigil in Isla Vista. One by one they gathered, each with a heavy heart and some with a story to share. It was all part of a moving tribute to Lucas Ransom.

Isla Vista County Park was peppered with glow sticks, candle light and a single stage surrounded by those wishing to pay tribute to the 19-year old.

The UCSB Junior was attacked by a shark and died from his injuries Friday while body-boarding with a friend off surf beach at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

California Department of Fish and Game officials say they're all but certain that the attack was likely by a great white shark measuring 17 to 18 feet long and weighing 4,000 pounds.

A viewing, rosary and funeral mass for Lucas Ransom will take place Wednesday night at 5 p.m. inside St. James Catholic Church in Perris.
