SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo leaders want to put an end to what some students have made a graduation day tradition, drinking before commencement, and they’re asking for downtown businesses to help out.

In a letter signed by Keith Humphrey VP of Student Affairs, and City of San Luis Obispo Mayor Jan Marx, they asked the San Luis Obispo Downtown Associate to delay serving alcohol until 9am on graduation day.

Mayor Marx said “We’ll see what the bar owners do, but I think this raises the profile of the issue no matter what they do.”

City and Cal Poly leaders, will meet with the downtown association next week to discuss the request.
