Armed Bank Robber Sought

Written by KEYT Anchor

The FBI is assisting the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's department in finding an armed bank robbery suspect. And this may not have been his first heist.

The robbery happened about 4:25 Tuesday afternoon at the Santa Barbara Bank & Trust on the 14-hundred block of East Valley Road in Montecito.

The adult, white male suspect entered the bank wearing a grey sweatshirt, gloves, sunglasses and black b-m-x style helmet. He was carrying a back pack.

He revealed a small, black handgun to a teller, received an undisclosed amount of cash, then fled on a purple b-m-x style bike. During his escape, a small dye pack slipped into the stolen money may have exploded inside the suspect's back pack.

No one was injured during the robbery and as many as 10 witnesses inside the bank were interviewed by detectives. It's not clear if the suspect is wanted in connection to other robberies but there are similarities.

Authorities are urging anyone with any information about this crime or the suspect to please contact them.
