Safety Warning for Holiday Weekend

Written by KEYT Reporter

Santa Barbara - Happy holiday weekend, but be careful. That seems to be the message from authorities from Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura Counties. They want to remind partiers, beachgoers, and motorists to behave yet have a good time.

Authorities also want to remind people about some hefty fireworks fines that can be imposed. But that doesn't mean you can't have fun this holiday weekend.

Only ten cities in the Tri-counties allow safe and sane fireworks.
The designated cities are Fillmore in Ventura County. Santa Maria and Guadalupe in Santa Barbara County, and San Miguel, Templeton, Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach and Oceano in San Luis Obispo County.

Fillmore fireworks stands sell them for non profits such as the new explorer program.

Getting a fireworks fine is most cities is like getting a thousand dollar parking ticket.

You can avoid fines help worthy causes just by attending professional shows.

Most of the proceeds from the Rotary's Fireworks Show at Ventura College will go to the "Ventura Promise" that makes freshman year free for recent high school grads.

Fillmore and Santa Maria both have fireworks hotlines set up:((fillmore 524 1500 ext 350)) ((santa maria 925-0951 ext 3473))
