SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

Santa Barbara county sheriff's deputies cited four people after it was discovered they were promoting rooster fights. 

The rooster fight was discovered Sunday morning when officers got a call about several cars that were parked on a private lot on Mahoney Road near the Santa Maria airport. 

When officers arrived, about 20 to 30 people fled on foot. Police were able to recover 19 roosters. 

Metal spurs that attach to the roosters feet to inflict damaged during the fight were also found.

Two of the roosters had to be euthanized because of the injuries. 

77-year-old Cipriano Rodgriquez of Santa Barbara and 32-year-old Armando Villa of Santa Ynez were both cited for fighting birds and trespassing. 

85-year-old Jose Alvarez and 55 year old Carlos Villa of Buellton were also cited for trespassing.
