Slideshow: Protestors Rally Against Santa Barbara News-Press

At 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2015, protesters gathered at De La Guerra Plaza in Santa Barbara to demonstrate against use of the word "illegals" in a Santa Barbara News-Press front page headline.

The paper on Saturday printed a story about the new law allowing undocumented immigrants to apply for driver's licenses.  The headline was titled "Illegals Line Up for Driver's Licenses," with a photo taken of people at a DMV office.

Protesters have demanded the newspaper retract the headline and apologize to the community.  Editors at the News-Press released a statement defending the decision to use the words printed in the headline and story.

Demonstrators marched down State Street to chants and signs raised high in the air. Santa Barbara police were forced to shut down some intersections in downtown to keep marchers safe from traffic.

The march ended with a sit-down in the middle of the intersection at State and De La Guerra streets. Protesters threatened to return on January 19 if the News-Press did not change the headline.

Below is a compilation of the images recorded by Digital Journalist Oscar Flores.
