SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Students at Santa Maria High School now have a visual reminder to encourage them to drive safe and avoid car accidents, which is the number one cause of death for teenagers in the United States.
On Monday afternoon, students, staff and representatives from Allstate Insurance gathered at the front of campus to raise a special flag, which was emblazoned with the phrase, "#GetThereSafe." It was part of a national student-led initiative to educate young drivers about the importance of safe driving, especially wearing a seat belt, obeying the speed limit and eliminating distractions.
Allstate Insurance is donating money to the school, which will be used for various programs to help spread the important message. The new flag will be flown during the rest of May as part of Global Youth Traffic Safety Month.
