SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Hundreds of UC Santa Barbara students threw color powder in the air in celebration of the Hindu holiday Holi Sunday afternoon.
The South Asia Student Association or 'Indus' organized the event.
Holi is the Hindu festival for spring and is usually celebrated in March. Event organizer Pranti Shah said that due to finals at UCSB the event was rescheduled for after spring break. The event just so happened to fall on Easter this year.
Holi is also known as the festival of colors, Shah said that the color powder signifies everything coming to life.
"Basically just celebrating the coming of spring and celebrating life and brotherhood and a way to bring the community together," said Shah.
Proceeds from Sunday's event helps fund other 'Indus' club activities throughout the year.
