SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - People across the Central Coast use ride-sharing apps to get around every day, and there are some simple steps you can take to keep yourself safe out on the roads.
Several Lyft and Uber drivers KCOY 12 spoke with Monday said the best advice is to always stay inside the app, and keep things professional.
Always get picked up in a well-lit area, and make sure the Uber or Lyft drivers car and license plate number match those given by the app. Ride-hailing applications will never ask you to pay a driver through another form of electronic payment.
"Uber adds to the insurance policy that I presently have on my car when I'm using the app, only when I'm using the app," said Uber and Lyft driver Joe Giral. If somebody turns off the app, I'm on my own, so I would much rather work through the Uber app."
That does not include tips. Rating your driver after every trip is suggested; it helps everyone find the best drivers.
