SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - When Tanchis Alcerro caught her husband Ramon Alcerro's eye in Honduras seven decades ago he was engaged to another woman in the United States.
He quickly broke off his engagement and asked Tanchis to marry him.
She said she was attracted by the way he danced and talked to her as an equal..
In September they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary, and they still appear madly in love.
On Tuesday, they danced to Sinatra during a Valentine's Day party with their friends at the Vista Del Monte retirement community where they have lived for more than two decades.
While everyone enjoyed a chocolate fountain, and chocolate martinis, they talked about their romance.
They both worked in health care, and raised three sons, including a Santa Barbara Doctor.
"Love has no explanation that is logical. I loved her from the beginning. I love her. Her spirit captured me," Ramon Alcerro, 98.
Tanchis Alcerro , 92, has self-published books about their family and love story, but she said it takes more than love..
"Affection, show affection and respect. I always say love is not enough, " said Tanchis Alcerro.
