SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - San Luis Obispo County is offering half-price animal adoptions as the county shelter reaches capacity.
Representatives from the County of San Luis Obispo Division of Animal Services say the shelter is 'bursting at the seams' with an abundance of adoptable animals.
Due to the massive amounts of animals at the shelter, the county has decided to offer half price adoptions for all available animals starting on Tuesday.
Small and big dogs, cats and kittens, roosters, a horse, and a rabbit are all available for adoption.
Shelter officials say animals are surrendered to the shelter with greater frequency as the end of the summer approaches.
"People come back from vacation, start back to work or school and decide they need to give up their pet because they don’t have time anymore," shelter supervisor Andrea Liddie said.
"In addition to over one hundred stray and owner surrendered pets residing in the shelter, there are over 70 animals currently being cared for by volunteer fosters in their homes,“ Liddie said.
Anyone looking to add a new pet to their home is encouraged to visit the shelter starting on Tuesday. The discounted prices will be available until Saturday, Sept. 9.
The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday with extended hours on Wednesdays. The shelter is open on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
