SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The cost of a classic Thanksgiving dinner is up this year. A nationwide survey by The American Farm Bureau Federation shows the average cost of a turkey dinner with all the fixings for a family of ten is just under $50. That is up more than a $6 increase from two years ago.
The bird is the largest contributor to the price increase. A 16-pound turkey is around $23, nearly 70 cents higher than last Thanksgiving. Despite the slight increase in price, lines at grocery store checkouts are long as customers try to beat the last minute rush.
