SOLVANG, Calif. - Hundreds of participants and dozens of floats marched down the main streets of Solvang Saturday morning as part of the annual Julefest Parade.
The parade is the kickoff to the city's annual Julefest, which is a celebration of the holidays throughout the month of December.
The parade marched west down Mission Drive/State Route 246 and wrapped back around on Copenhagen Drive.
Floats from local organizations, schools and law enforcement agencies blasted holiday tunes and tossed candy to watchful children. The parade concluded with an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The parade's theme this year was “A Danish Tradition.” The parade's Grand Marshals were the local non-profit organization Vikings of Solvang.
The Santa Ynez Valley High School Robotics Team took top honors for their float.
Julefest is a month-long event throughout the city of Solvang, featuring wine tastings, photos with Santa, and local holiday shopping excursions.
