Early Thanksgiving dinner feeds 300 at the Santa Barbara Boys and Girls Club

Annual event brings neighbors together

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The tables were full and the plates piled high at the annual Thanksgiving dinner for the Santa Barbara Boys and Girls Club Tuesday night.

Volunteers served the full turkey dinner in a buffet line for an estimated 300 members of the community nearby. They did not have to be part of the program there.

Guest servers included Santa Barbara Police Chief Lori Luhnow and Santa Barbara County First District Supervisor Das Williams.

The menu included turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, rolls, beverages and different desserts including pumpkin pie. The table centerpiece displays were Thanksgiving art projects by club members.

Many people in attendance were from the close-knit community and are living on a tight budget. The dinner went for two hours and everything prepared, was gobbled up.

The event is supported by Montecito Bank & Trust, the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County and staffed by volunteers -- many who have been involved for years.
