SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Shalhoob Meat Company, in business for 44 years, has just opened an outdoor dining area in the Funk Zone.

It’s on Gray Avenue near Montecito Street by the main meat building. The menu features the famous tri-tip along with fish tacos, chicken, ribs, salads and falafel. The lunch and dinner service has been quietly open for several days and NewsChannel 3 was given the first tour of the new dining and kitchen area.

"There's not many options in the Funk Zone, for diners and especially locals to go place their are familiar with,” said L.J. Shalhoob. “We wanted to provide really good food, quality food made from scratch at a really good price.”

The outside dining area has large tables in rows and around the outside edge facing the street, bar chairs for individual seating. “We like to call it Santa Barbara style picnic cuisine. It’s big benches, it is communal,  it is outside on a gorgeous Santa Barbara day. It’s good food, you want to enjoy it with friends and family."

The restaurant features local beers including M Special and Pure Order along with local wines, such as Oreana located a block away.

It’s open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday nights it will be open later, until 11 p.m.
