SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The American Red Cross will be distributing recovery supplies to families returning home after the Whittier Fire.
Volunteers will be on hand at St. Andrews Church at 4575 Auhay Drive, just down the road from San Marcos High School where an evacuation shelter is slated to close on Wednesday, distributing items like sifters, rakes, shovels, clean up kits, and bottled water.
Volunteers will be distributing the items again on Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Spiritual care volunteers and emotional counselors will also be on hand to help residents cope with the recovery process.
Red Cross caseworks have also been meeting with families, offering financial assistance and other resources or referrals to them as needed.
Some of the Whittier Fire victims picking up supplies have Go Fund Me pages including "Jose & Stephanie's Fire Fund" at gofundme.com.
Correction: The Red Cross had previously listed July 20's distribution hours as being from 2-6 p.m. They have since changed those times and we have updated this article to reflect the new times.
