SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Children with special needs got to celebrate a day at the beach Sunday in Santa Barbara.
Best Day Foundation, a volunteer organization that helps kids with special needs build confidence while helping them in the water, hosted their beach day for kids at Leadbetter Beach.
Some of the proceeds raised from the event go towards special equipment used during the beach day.
Wider boogie boards and surf boards with seat holders allow kids with a variety of needs to have equal opportunity in the ocean.
The rest of the proceeds go towards permits and lifeguards.
"For some, this is their first time in the ocean," said surf volunteer Max Wilshinsky.
Wilshinsky says he comes back every year to volunteer because he loves to share his love for the ocean with the kids and volunteering makes him appreciates his life and opportunities.
For some kids, this event is anticipated year after year.
"We love it. We have been to Best Day a couple of times and it is a great organization for these kids and adults for that matter," said Bradlley Moore, a father of a child with special needs.
"She has been talking about it for weeks. So yeah, she really enjoys coming out," Moore said.
