SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A central coast Facebook group started to celebrate a football team is sending thousands of pounds in donations to those in Ventura County displaced by the Thomas Fire.
There was more action outside in the El Rancho Bowl parking lot in Santa Maria Thursday night than there was inside as dozens of Oakland Raider fans and volunteers worked to fill a semi-trailer full of supplies.
The destination: Ventura County and those affected by the Thomas Fire.
"I just posted it on our Facebook page, and everybody started sharing," said Marisa Silva, a member of the '805 Raider Nation' Facebook group. "We have over 300 cases of water we're donating, we have hygiene products, we have cribs, we have playpens. The community has just been coming together."
The Santa Maria Inn and other hotels across the central coast has reduced prices for their rooms for those looking to stay close to their fire-affected homes.
"That's our family too," said Raymond Sanchez. "They are a part of us too, that's how we look at it. We know they would do the same for us."
Volunteers with the group will be working hard to get donations to those that need them the most.
