SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary is a new, non-profit organization based in San Luis Obispo.
The group rescues and rehabilitates abused, neglected or unwanted farm animals and brings them back to health with love and proper veterinary care.
The animals are then used to help children and others learn about compassion and healing from emotional issues and trauma.
"I started it because I think farm animals are under-represented in this area and there's so many dog and cat rescues, even horse rescues, that there's nothing for farm animals", said Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary Executive Director Diane Dieterich, "they are among the most abused animals there are so I think its important that we have a place where we can rescue and rehabilitate them."
"Our programs have an emphasis on children, but others can benefit as well. We share the history of each animal, their resilience and why it is important to show kindness to others", Dieterich said, "kids are invited to share hands-on time with the animals and experience the unconditional acceptance and healing that animals give naturally. In turn, this helps kids open up and have teachable moments that can last a lifetime."
Greener Pastures is hosting its first fundraiser Saturday night, September 23, 2017 at 6pm at Oddfellows Hall in San Luis Obispo.
Proceeds will go toward the acquisition of five to ten acres of land in the San Luis Obispo area for the new farm animal sanctuary.
