Santa Maria Police confirm they have a suspect in custody responsible for the hit and run death of 3-year old Gizel Lopez.
The suspect is 21-year old Miguel Gallardo. Police say they interviewed the owners of about 20 Lincoln navigators in the area matching the description of the suspects car and Gallardo told them he was involved in the accident.
The accident happened before 7pm Tuesday night on Hermosa Street. Wednesday night, flowers and candles marked the spot where the maroon Lincoln Navigator hit 3-year-old Gizel.
Eyewitnesses say the driver was going too fast down the residential street.
Police believe Gizel was running across the street to meet a relative when the accident happened. One resident says the neighborhood is still shaken up by the incident. Gallardo faces felony hit and run charges and is being held on $50,000.
