Public Gets To Speak On Carpinteria Slant-Drilling Project
Carpinteria, CA-- Residents of the town will be speaking out Monday night, on an initiative plan that could put a controversial oil and gas drilling project up for a vote next year.
The project, known as the Paredon Project is being proposed by Veneco. A status report on the project will be presented prior to the public comment during Monday night's City Council meeting. Venoco wants to drill for offshore oil and gas reserves from an on shore tower that could stand 175 feet tall. The company says the slant drilling operation would use the most modern production and safety equipment. Opponents say it's a risk to the environment and neighboring residents. In addition to tonight's meeting, the city votes December 14th to determine if the initiative should be adopted or go to the voters for a decision next year. The hearing is expected to begin at 5:30 at Carpinteria City Hall. |
