Charter School In Danger Of Closing

Santa Barbara, CA-- A school known for bringing Spanish and English speaking children together in the classroom, faces closure.

District administrators say, based on state numbers, Cesar Chavez Charter School will not have its charter renewed, which expired in October.

Superintendent Brian Sarvis says the school does not meet minimum state standards when it comes to API academic scores, and performs lower than all other schools in the district.

Principal Eva Neuer says she is hopeful the school board will view all of the charter school's data, not just test scores.

Sarvis is expected to release a report on the data on Friday.

The emotionally-charged issue goes up for discussion during Tuesday night's school board meeting at 7 p.m.
