Local CHP Officer Killed in Collision

Buellton, CA-- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statement Friday afternoon, regarding the death Officer Jarrod Martinez of Buellton.

Officer Martinez died Thursday afternoon while riding on his motorcycle in the Los Olivos area. Martinez was hit by another car on Steele St., near Ballard Canyon Road.

In a press release Governor Schwarzenegger said, "Maria and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jarrod Martinez, who worked daily to protect his community. The Santa Barbara area is a better place because of his tireless service and we will never forget his dedication to public safety. On behalf of all Californians, we send our thoughts and prayers to Jarrod's family, friends and fellow officers."

Martinez lived in Buellton with his wife Trish and daughter Julia.
