Dalai Lama Draws Thousands At UCSB
Goleta, CA-- You might call it "divine intervention." Amid fee hikes and admission cuts at UCSB, students had a "holy" distraction Friday morning-- a visit from the Dalai Lama.
Just under 10,000 tickets were sold for two appearances by the "his holiness," as he's known among Buddhists. Some meditated during his two hour lecture; others laughed even when he spoke about his own human frailties. A UCSB spokesman says all proceeds go toward putting on the event, and security. The Dalai Lama, himself, isn't paid for his appearances. Any surplus money will go to the charities of his choice -- a deed, many say, will bring good karma. KEY News Reporter Beth Farnsworth attended his morning lecture and has the story. |
