Winter Storm Drops Snow Across The Tri-Counties
With the latest storm system to pass through the Tri-Counties, reports of snow from Atascadero to the mountains above Ojai seem to be making headlines.
Around 8:30 Monday morning, snow began to fall in Atascadero, Santa Margarita and other areas of northern San Luis Obispo County. Traffic came to a near standstill along the Cuesta Grade while flurries of snow fell on morning commuters. Ice and snow causing dangerous road conditions were to blame for a Caltrans shut down of Highway 166 east of New Cuyama. The mountains above the City of Santa Barbara's displayed a dusting of the white powder which quickly disappeared when the sun came out. However, snow was in no shortage near Figueroa Mountain just north of the Santa Ynez Valley. In Ventura County, snow was reported at elevations as low as 3,000 feet. Motorists traveling on Highway 33 through the Los Padres National Forest were advised to carry chains if driving to elevations above the 3,000 foot level. |
