Closing Arguments Continue In Juarez Trial
Santa Barbara, CA--Both sides in the Ricardo Juarez murder trial have presented their closing arguments, now the jury will have to decide the fate of the 15-year-old defendant.
In closing arguments that began Monday, defense attorney Karen Atkins said, Juarez was present during a deadly downtown Santa Barbara fight but did not inflict the fatal wound. The prosecution has reminded jurors that the law requires a jury to find a suspect guilty of murder if they are involved, even if the jury does not agree that the suspect committed the fatal blow. The defense argues that there are too many conflicting stories from witnesses about what happened and a mountain of evidence. The gang fight took the life of 15-year-old Luis Linares who was stabbed eight times during a large fight that involved many young people, using bats, sticks, stakes, bottles, and at least one knife. On Wednesday morning the prosecution will have it's final rebuttal and the case will go to the jury. |
