Colleges Debate A Younger Drinking Age
A large group of college presidents from across the nation are calling on lawmakers to consider changing an age old law. They want to lower the drinking age from 21 to 18. The presidents say current laws actually encourage binge drinking on campus and many college students are choosing to use fake id's to fit in with their peers. The college presidents banded together more than a year ago to provoke a national debate on the issue. They represent schools like Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State. But some local presidents aren't supporting the proposal. Some opponents of the proposal say teens will start drinking at an earlier age, leading to more fatal car crashes. KEY News Reporter Arti Nehru spoke to university officials locally and has their reaction.
