Budget Cuts Still A Concern For Schools
The Santa Barbara School District is getting ready for the first day of classes, which begin Monday, August 25th. A few teachers recently gave notice saying they will not be returning this year. So, the district is just wrapping up the hiring process for those open positions. The vacancies have made room for all the teachers who were given pink slips last year. But Superintendent Brian Sarvis says future budget concerns made it necessary to hire those teachers on a temporary basis. Declining enrollment in the junior highs and high schools means their per student dollars are being cut as well. KEY News Reporter Ryan Carmel has more on this story.
